A Safety Plan

What to do if your partner of boyfriend loses control....

  • Plan ahead for an emergency.
  • Know where to go and how to get there - A friend's house, a safe house, a shelter etc.
  • Have a code word you cab use with a friend or family member to alert then that you want them to come or call the police.
  • Have a bag or suitcase packed and ready to grab - Have some money, SIN card, bankbook, marriage license, MCP card, some clothes, items for the children, and any medications. You could also store an extra set with a friend or relative.
  • Memorize numbers to call for help, or keep a list handy with the local police or RCMP, emergency numbers for Human Resources and Employment (formally Social Services).
  • Take your children with you.
  • Tell someone about the abuse
  • Soon after the abuse, write down what you remember about it. If you wish , ask someone to help you with this.
